There are many reasons why some people lack self-confidence, and past experiences are one of them. The way someone was raised and treated as a child can affect their whole future attitude. Also, in today’s day and age, product marketing aims to make people feel like they are lacking something so that it can tell them to buy a product to fill that gap.
1. Try to ignore your limiting beliefs
Sometimes people tend to concentrate on the things that they think are undoable for them, and they let these thoughts keep them down. They diminish their abilities more than they think, and they let negativity run the course of their lives. When moments like these appear in front of you, turn things around and tell yourself that you can try it. There is no shame in trying and if you succeed, you will prove to yourself that nothing is a no-go for you as long as you put some effort into it.
2. Face your fears and gain control of your life
When we let fear get ahold of us, we tend to lose control of our lives and also lose our confidence. So, instead of giving in to our biggest fears, we can decide to look them straight in the eye. It’s the only way we can conquer them and leave them behind once and for all. It is a personal win that shows us how we can have control of our lives no matter what.
3. Don’t compare yourself to others
In a 2018 study, researchers found that people who compare themselves to people on social media feel a great deal of envy. And as they felt envious towards other people, they also felt terrible about themselves. To beat that, you need to always remind yourself of your successes in life and the things you’ve achieved so far. What you see online isn’t always accurate, and you have to keep that in the back of your mind.
4. Be assertive
Stress and lack of self-esteem is what often makes people lack assertiveness in their daily activities. But this is a very important communication skill that makes others respect you and shows that you always stand up for your rights. The way you stand and they way you phrase your words plays a huge part in making your point listened and respected. You don’t have to be shy or easy-going when you’re asking for your basic rights.
5. Take care of your mind and body
There are four things that your brain and body need in order to perform at their top abilities: good diet, exercise, sleep and meditation. And these are also activities that help you increase your self-confidence and look more assertive in society. All four of these activities have been proven to increase self-esteem and confidence, while giving you a more positive attitude.
6. Don’t be afraid to take credit for your achievements
Some people are afraid that boasting about their achievements will make them look arrogant and cocky. But, this is false, since letting your bosses know that something you did led to something wonderful can be very beneficial for you. Not only that, but you will also feel good about yourself knowing that your good work is known by those that matter the most. Of course, you need to make sure that you use the right language and attitude.
7. Make eye contact
If this is hard for you, you can start with an 80/20 ratio and concentrate on their eyes for 80% of the time and on something else for 20% of the time. It might be hard at first, but with time you will notice that your confidence levels will rise. You will also notice that your relationships will become stronger and last longer.
8. Learn a new skill
Nobody knows everything or is perfect at what they already know, which means that growth is always an option. You can turn to podcasts and mentorship books for inspiration and start working on your skills. As your knowledge keeps growing, you will see that your confidence also skyrockets in the best way possible. Filling in the gaps you feel you have will not only build you up in your own eyes, but also in the eyes of others.
